Japan, Day 7: Shinjuku & Ueno

We were originally planning to attend DisneySea but decided to postpone it and go to a museum instead. We went window shopping in Shinjuku, visited the Tokyo National Museum, and explored Ueno Park & Ameyayokocho.

8:30-12:15: We’ve run into photo transfer and storage problems so Karl ran out to Yodobashi Camera to find a SD card reader for his phone. We were transferring files to our file server with the iPad but noticed that only jpg files would transfer when I shot in both raw and jpg format. I want the raw files for editing later but need jpg files for my blog. We can’t leave the files on our SD cards because I’ve already filled up all of them. /sigh

Hopefully this will solve our photo transferring problem. Android: 1, Apple: 0

The clerk at Yodobasi told Karl he should celebrate with KFC breakfast. Karl should have bought more because it was really good.

Some sort of sausage dog that was very yummy.

We went out to explore Shinjuku and received some suggestions and a tour booklet from a friendly Japanese man whose hobby is assisting tourist. He said ‘Japanese government designs great booklet but fails at delivery.’ He’s right!

Tunnel to allow people to cross beneath the gigantic station.

Studio Alta was recommended to us by a local.

Exploring Shinjuku.

Sailor Moon Gashapon Machine. It was jammed so we had to find a worker to retrieve my prize. Just another language adventure.

Sailor Jupiter!

Game Centers are like American Arcades but on steroids. If only we had places like this at home.

Game centers are everywhere in Tokyo.

Sweet shops have the cutest desserts.

Gourmet Pops!

Grapefruit & lychee flavor – a bit tart.

Train from Shinjuku to Ueno

I’m glad we ended up in Ueno. It wasn’t really a place I planned to visit but it worked out great because there’s a huge park full of museums and shrines right outside the station. We saw a lot of great art and history at the Tokyo National Museum, and enjoyed strolling through the other ares afterwards.

Amazing detail.

This guy looks fun.

This was Karl’s favorite.

This dude reminds me of Karl.

Love love love.

Umbrella holders outside the museum.

Melon ice cream.

More ice cream! Chocolate and chocolate & milk. Milk might be the same as vanilla. Not sure…

Cool tree.
