DragonCon 2019, Thursday

Thursday is definitely the new Friday. This year there were panels and multiple dance parties hosted Thursday night, which was kind of a bummer because Thursday is our DCF Meet & Greet day. We rolled into Atlanta around 1 pm with my sister Stacey in tow, checked into our room at the Westin and unpacked while Karl drove the car to the airport to park the car. Parking near the airport is only $7-10 a night as opposed to the $35-40+ the hotels and nearby parking garages charge during DragonCon.

We stayed in room 4003 on the 40th floor of the Westin and had a lovely view of Centennial Park.

DragonCon is switching to a new registration system this year so for the first time in years, we had to stand in line for a while, about 45 minutes, to get our badge. In honor of Stan Lee DragonCon included a really nice Stan Lee lanyard with everyone’s badge. I thought that was really cool, plus it looks good.

DragonCon Forums Meet & Greet

  • DCF Shirt pick-up in the Sheraton
  • Photos of Cosplay / Hotels Walk-through

We met up with our DragonCon Forums group for our annual Meet & Greet at Gus’s Fried Chicken around 4 pm. It was great to catch up with everyone. Karl and I brought a bunch of door prizes, and Mindi brought the awesome grand prize, a custom made dragon scale cup. Mortal was the lucky winner. Afterward, we walked with Trathor to the Sheraton to pick up Karl’s 2019 DCF shirt and then walked around taking photos. We saw quite a few really cool cosplays. My favorite was a Top Gun cosplay group. The Danger Zone guy had a radio playing the song. So fun!

Hawaiian Party at Trader Vics

  • Hawaiian Party at Trader Vics / DCF Meet-up
  • Yesteryear Lagoon & Lounge at the Sheraton with Stacey
  • Hilton Wars lobby party
  • End Game Neon Pary

Trader Vic’s was so packed they opened up an overflow area and a second bar. Hanging out in the overflow area wasn’t nearly as fun as being in the main part of the restaurant but we had a good time. After a couple of Mai Tais, we went upstairs to the Hilton lobby for their infamous lobby parties. Honestly, I probably prefer the Hilton lobby parties over most of the normal parties.

Stacey wanted to go swimming at the pool party happening at the Sheraton so we met up with her at the pool. The Yesteryear party had a cute photo area set up which was great since we were dressed to match. What a great first day at DragonCon!
