Dragon Con 2015, Thursday

Technically Dragon Con doesn’t begin until Friday but so many fans gather and arrange meet and greets and concerts that Thursday has become the unofficial start date of Dragon Con. Wednesday is already seeing quite a bit of activity as well. I think some fans would like Dragon Con to be a week long but I don’t think most of us could handle a week of Dragon Con. lol

We arrived in Atlanta a little after 10:30 EST in the hope of snagging a room with two beds at the Marriott Marquis but all the double rooms were gone hours before we arrived.

This was our first time staying in the Marriott Marquis Hotel. The Marriott is essentially the heart of Dragon Con.

We stayed in a king room. Thankfully it was more than spacious enough for a queen sized air mattress.

View of the pool. Not bad. We saw a mermaid one day.

Parking in downtown Atlanta during Dragon Con is $35 a day so after checking in Karl drove our car to the airport to park for $7 a day while I unpacked our things at the hotel. It takes about an hour for Karl to get to the airport and back via Marta but it saves us $140. THANK YOU KARL!

I also painted on my Star Trek trill spots for a casual Thursday cosplay.
I love my trill spots. They're very slimming. Wish I could wear them more often.

This year we roomed with our good friends Cori & Jimmy. We roomed together in 2011 and had a great time. This year was also great minus the sick.
Our roomies! We all roomed together in 2011 and had a great time. This year we decided to do a Star Wars The Old Republic group costume. Fun!

Picked up our badges at the Sheraton. We were in and out in less than 10 minutes. Woohoo!

A man asked to take my picture as soon as we left the hotel. Yay! He took this group picture for us, and I posed with him as well. I dress up more for fun than for pictures but it’s always nice when someone wants to take your picture.

We headed over to Twenty-Two Stories (a restaurant/bar) in the Hyatt Regency for a bit to eat after picking up our badges. I ordered a special Dragon Con cocktail called 'Bucket of Voodoo' and it was STRONG! I wasn't very impressed with the food. It was mostly meh.

Inside the Marriott Marquis

I fell in love with this hotel the first time I saw it’s bee hive like interior. We’ve spent so much time in it over the years that it sort of feels like a kind of surreal sci-fi alternate home.

Dragon Con Forums Meet & Greet

Karl and I joined an unofficial Dragon Con fan forum earlier in the year that I’ve been fairly active with so we decided to go to their meet and greet to make some new Dragon Con friends and I’m so glad we did because it was a blast.

Thursday Night Cosplay

We met back up with our roomies after the forum meet and greet to walk around, take photos, and people watch.

Hell yeah!
Hell yeah!

Thursday was a lot of fun. Probably a bit too much fun. A lot of people talk about wanting Dragon Con to be longer but I don’t think most of us could physically handle it being any longer unless we tone down our partying. I doubt I’ll drink as much on Thursday night next year. I ended up catching con crud Friday night and it was probably from drinking too much Thursday. I was surprised and impressed by the amount of cosplaying I saw Thursday night. It was a good time to both take photos and to have your photo taken since the crowd wasn’t too intense.
