DragonCon 2017, Wednesday

Karl and I added an extra day to our annual DragonCon extravaganza at the behest of our DragonConForums friends. I was really stressed about missing an extra day of school but I’m glad we added the extra day. Check in was so much easier and we were actually able to settle in at a nice pace. We added the extra day in order to meet our DragonConForums friends for dinner.

We added the extra day in order to meet our DragonConForums friends for dinner. DragonConForums.org is an unofficial DragonCon forum that I discovered a little over three years ago. Karl and I had been coming to DragonCon for awhile but hadn’t made any real DragonCon friends so I found us some. Karl and I went to our first DragonConForums meet and greet three years ago and have been hanging out with these peeps 1-3 times a year ever since. We <3 them. 🙂

I’ve been so tired and busy with school that I did not pack until after waking up today. I was so tired this morning. I ended up running us a bit late. We made it to the Hilton in Atlanta just in time to unload the car, and for Karl to park the car at the airport and ride the Marta back while I unpacked and got ready for dinner.

Dinner at Trader Vic’s with our DragonConForums.org crew.

Porch Punch at the Hyatt

After a brief visit to our room, we joined the others in the Marriott and walked to the Hyatt to try Josh and Angie’s famous Porch Punch. I have no idea what’s in it, but it’s great. Not too strong and not too sweet. It’s always fun listening to everyone kid with each other. Our DCF friends are a really great group of people.

Walking Around

Karl and I popped into CVS for some supplies after leaving the Hyatt. Then we walked back through and into the Marriott and ran into three guys who all had said they were going to sleep. Go figure! lol

Impromptu Panel at the Hilton

We looked at costumes together and then walked over to the Hilton where we were invited to participate in an impromptu panel. Jojo went straight to the table and proceeded to lead the discussion. We learned about Jojo’s first DragonCon and all I’m going to say is wow. DragonCon attracts all types and I’m glad to say Karl and I have really only had one bad experience in our nine years of DragonCon and it was not as crazy as a lot of stories we hear.

This impromptu panel was a lot of fun. We all shared how many years we’ve been attending DragonCon, swaped DragonCon stories, celebrity stories, commiserated over the Hilton removing the escalators, and discussed Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Game of Thrones. Good stuff.

Hallway Karaoke with Adam

We were having such a good time socializing that we ended up hanging out with Adam and helping him test his portable Karaoke setup. It all fits in a large lunchbox looking bag. Adam and I took turns singing and singing together and it was a ton of fun. It was the first time I’ve done karaoke since taking voice lessons and while I was off on a few songs I could tell that I sang more comfortably.
