Texas Road Trip, 2018

Whew! What a trip. Karl and I just got home from a weeklong road trip to Texas and back. We both got to explore several areas we’d never been to before. We saw a lot of sights and ate a ton of good food. I now know why people rave about food in Texas. I’ll be posting detailed vacation blogs this week but for the time being here are a few highlights from our trip.

Our trip included stops and/or stays in the following cities and some surrounding areas:

  • Tuscaloosa, AL
  • Baton Rouge, LA
  • Houston, TX
  • San Antonio, TX
  • Austin, TX
  • Waco, TX
  • Dallas, TX

Some highlights of our trip include:

  • Touring the Old State Capital in Baton Rouge, LA
  • Visiting the Houston Museum of Art and NASA’s Mission Control in Houston, TX
  • Visiting the San Antonio Riverwalk, The Alamo, and The Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, TX
  • Visiting Graffiti Park and seeing the Texas Capitol building in Austin, TX
  • Visiting our friend Danielle in Dallas, TX
  • Eating all the yummy Texas food. Texas is known for its brisket and tex-mex. We had plenty of both. We also tried Guatemalan food for the first time, and had the best burger and fries ever at a place called Hopdoddy.

  • Day 1, Friday: Drove from AL to Texas

    • Arrived in Houston, TX

    • Houston Downtown Aquarium
    • Kemah Boardwalk
  • Day 3, Sunday: Houston to San Antonio
    • Toured NASA’s Johnson Space Center
    • Tried Guatemalan food at Atitlan Restaurant
    • Drove to San Antonio
  • Day 4, Monday: Explored San Antonio
    • Hop on Hop Off Bus Tour
    • Lunch at Augies (Delicious Brisket)
    • Riverwalk River Boat Cruise
    • Drinks at Hard Rock Cafe
  • Day 5, Tuesday: San Antonio
    • Toured The Alamo
    • Lunch at Blue Star Arts Complex
    • Battle for the Alamo film
    • Visited Karl’s old neighborhood
    • Tower of the Americas
  • Day 6, Wednesday: San Antonio to Austin
    • Japanese Tea Garden and Cafe
    • Graffiti Park at Castle Hills
    • Laundry and early night at hotel
  • Day 7, Thursday: Austin to Waco to Dallas
    • Lunch at Terry Black’s BBQ in Austin
    • Dr Pepper Museum & Magnolia Market in Waco
    • Checked into the Dallas Omni Hotel
    • Dinner at Gen Korean BBQ in Carrollton, TX
  • Day 8, Friday: Dallas
    • Dallas Museum of Art
    • Dallas Driving Tour / Hardrock Cafe Pin
    • Lunch at Hopdoddy
    • Shopping and dinner with our friend Danielle in Carrollton, TX
  • Day 9, Saturday: The Return Home
    • Drove home from Dallas
