Texas Road Trip, Day 5: The Alamo

Day 5: Exploring San Antonio

Our second day in San Antonio was focused on visiting the Alamo during the day and the Tower of the Americas in the evening. We explored a little market area and walked along the Riverwalk on our way to The Alamo in the heart of the city. Not much remains of the original Alamo complex. The famous building that still stands was the church where many made their last stand. In honor of those that gave their lives, and in reverence of the holy ground, hats may not be worn inside and no photos are allowed. The inside of the Alamo was a lovely wide-open stone church with several small side rooms. You can feel the weight of history inside the space. It was a special experience.

The Alamo

Touring The Alamo AKA The Shrine of Texas Liberty is a must when in San Antonio. The original Alamo complex was quite large, all that remains is the chapel and some walls.

Around Town

After touring the Alamo we stopped by a nearby visitors center to pick up some souvenirs, and then shared our favorite ice cream at Haagen-Dazs. Afterward, we returned to the Shops at Rivercenter mall to see the Imax film: Alama: The Price of Freedom. It was a great little history lesson.
