Texas Road Trip, Day 4: Downtown San Antonio

Day 4: Exploring San Antonio

We spent our first day in San Antonio exploring the downtown area on a hop on and off bus tour, and the Riverwalk by boat.

  • Explored Downtown San Antonio
  • Visited the RiverCenter Mall
  • Got a taste of Texas’s famously good brisket at Augie’s
  • Enjoyed the Riverwalk via a River Boat Cruise and drinks at Hard Rock
  • Dinner at The Fruteria
  • Ended the day with some time in our hotels hot tub and pool

Touring Downtown San Antonio

We did a Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour of San Antonio to get an overview of downtown and explore. The full circuit took about an hour and we learned about some good restaurants and city attractions.

Augie’s: Amazing Brisket

Tony Roma’s was our first choice for lunch but it was closed so we headed over to Augie’s since it also had high reviews. We really wanted to eat at Tony Roma’s but I’m glad it was closed because Augie’s was amazing! The brisket, beef ribs, and mac and cheese were the best.

Exploring the Riverwalk

After our Riverwalk Boat Cruise, we visited the San Antonio Hard Rock Cafe and enjoyed a few drinks at the bar. One of my drinks included an edible orchid. It tasted like lettuce.

The Fruteria & Evening Relaxations

A friend recommended The Fruteria and it was great. The guacamole and house-made chips were wonderful. The Ceviche Rojo was light and refreshing, and the Bistec Especial was super yummy. We also tried a unique Jicama and Melon salad composed of jicama, cantaloupe, cucumber, tomatoes, avocado, almonds, guajillo dust, and citrus vinaigrette. Yum!
