Home from Japan

Karl and I left Japan about 36 hours ago, and have been home for about 12. Being home feels great but it also makes our trip feel that much more surreal. We had three jam-packed weeks of awesomeness in Japan but it all kind of blurs together until I start looking through photos, notes, and things from the trip. Did it really happen? We currently have a couple of suitcases full of candy and things as proof but they will soon be unpacked and consumed. In the meantime, I can already feel our awesome experiences fading from my mind as all the things next on our agendas consumes more and more of my attention. I’m still several days behind but I am so glad I blogged most of the trip. I’ll go back over my posts and images and fill in more bits that will hopefully help me remember all of the magic of our trip. I’ve received almost a dozen, maybe more, messages from people telling me that they’ve enjoyed my blog. I’m very flattered, especially since I feel like I’m choppy and all over the place. Blogging from my iPhone and iPad was a real pain. Now that we have some experience with international travel I’ll feel more comfortable taking checked luggage when we go on our next adventure and we will definitely pack a laptop. 🙂

We are both very tired. The time warp on the way back was way worse than on the way there. Karl woke up a little bit ago unsure of where he was. The same thing happened to me yesterday. It’s funny but a little distressing to feel so disoriented. I’m sure we’ll get over it within the next few days but it’s an interesting sensation. I assume this is what people refer to as jet lag?

Once I’m caught up on our days in Japan posts I want to do some more posts on Japan, including posts on Japanese bathrooms, laundry, how to get around on buses and trains, accommodation options, travel tips and so on. I could probably, and most likely will, be blogging about Japan for months. However Dragon Con is next weekend and September is a very busy month for both Karl and I so I can’t speculate how often or when these posts will come. If there is something you’re interested about please contact me and let me know.

I tried to make it a point to take more video while in Japan. I still didn’t take as much as I wanted but I did manage to take a little video every day and have made this little 1 Second a Day video with the app of the same name. I made myself go back and replace several train videos with other things. I think the trains are what I’ll miss most, followed by the architecture and landscape, fancy Japanese bathrooms, food, karaoke, Shinto shrines, and super cute shops.
