School’s Out!
|Summer break officially began a month ago so I suppose it’s about time I updated the blog. Especially since I just realized I’ve barely posted anything since last summer. (Thanks grad school!) I’ve been enjoying a much-needed break this past month. Most of my time has been spent playing League of Legends, organizing digital files, catching up on things around the house, and spending quality time with Karl, friends, and family.
This past year of school was intense. I’m fairly certain this past fall semester was the most intense four-month period of my life. I was very careful not to overburden myself during the spring semester and it was going great until my hometown suffered a tornado. The tornado did major damage to the town and university so the university was closed for several weeks majorly disrupting the semester. The event really tore me up and I still don’t feel like talking about it. Needless to say I am so glad summer break is here so I can try to reset before classes resume in the fall.
I’m officially halfway through my graduate studies, but because this is a terminal degree I still have two years left. That’s a long time but I’m sure it will fly by just like the past two years. I present my thesis proposal in the fall, and I’m planning to do something with game-based learning, so I’ll be researching my topic this summer. I’m hoping to take a trip with Karl next month, and I’ll be visiting Orlando and Miami with my mom and sister later in the summer. Aside from those plans, I plan on spending the summer catching up on various projects and house things that have been neglected.
Karl’s been making great progress on the house. We finally have over half the house done. We had drywall installed in three rooms this past December: the laundry room, the hallway, and the second bedroom upstairs that I use as a studio. My studio space is essentially finished and I’ve been enjoying using the space this past semester. Having a dedicated workspace at home has been a godsend.
The laundry room still lacks cabinets, window trim, baseboards, flooring, and doors. We just picked up flooring and utility cabinets for it. Karl will be installing the utility cabinets this weekend and will hopefully install the new flooring next weekend.
In the past month, Karl has also removed and replaced the downstairs bathroom subfloor, joists, studs, and boarded up the window. It’s one of the bigger projects that we’ve been putting off for a long time but now that we’re finally tackling it progress is being made quickly. So as you can see we’re juggling a ton of projects. The studio, hallway, and laundry room are almost completely done, and I’m really hopeful we can complete our downstairs bathroom and living room by the end of August. -fingers crossed-
