Korea Day 5: Traditional Korean Music
|Day 5
- Class
- Lunch with Andy at the Student Union cafeteria
- Field Trip to Fanta-Stick (Samulnori)
- Dormitory: Rest, Homework, and Laundry
Language Class
I woke up with a headache and struggled to stay awake in class. It was raining as I walked to class. I was both surprised and delighted to see open umbrellas drip-drying around the hall walls when I entered the Global Center. Apparently this is the norm for allowing one’s umbrella to dry. It creates quite a whimsical scene.
Lunch
I couldn’t find my group for lunch so I joined Andy and the Kansas group for lunch at the Student Union (building) cafeteria. It was much cheaper than going to Baguk hall, and much cheaper than eating at JSU’s cafeteria, plus the food was delicious. I wish I could get cafeteria food like this in the states!
Samulnori
Our second cultural activity of the week was a field trip to Fanta-Stick where we learned about four special Korean instruments referred to as Samulnori, or the traditional percussion quartet. Everyone had the opportunity to play most of the instruments and we were taught a few beats and then played together as a group. Fun!
Laundry Night
I was feeling a little worn out and needed to catch up on homework and laundry so I just hung out in the dorm when we returned from our field trip.
