DragonCon 2015 Costume Line-up
|DragonCon is only a month away and Karl and I have just barely made our costume deadline. Sure there’s still a few things left to do the week after we get back from Japan, but they’re just finishing touches. Preparing for this year’s DragonCon has been both rougher and easier than I expected. Basically all the planning and trying to figure out how to make things took way longer than expected, but once decisions were made and we began execution our costumes manifested fairly quickly and I learned a lot of new skills. Skills that I hope to improve year after year and hopefully utilize for art projects and work. #yay #excited #learningisfun #knowledgeispower
Our DragonCon line-up in no particular order:
SWTOR (Star Wars The Old Republic, video game) inspired costumes (Sith). Karl’s is actually more of a Dark Anakin, and mine is totally a mashup of what I could manage to make so just roll with us. 😉 *NEW
Dieselpunk Outfits for the Mechanical Masquerade *New
My first attempt at something in the Steampunk/Dieselpunk style. The best way to describe this would probably be to call it a Mad Max inspired Dieselpunk costume. When we get back from Japan I’m going to try to put something together for Karl. I’m thinking black pants, grungy shirt, distressed leather jacket and makeup similar to mine or perhaps something shiny and chrome. 🙂
Star Trek – DS9 Trill (Carol) and TOS Command (Karl) *Returning
I’m hoping to bring back my Trill outfit if it still fits well. I bought some pro body paint for doing the spots this year. Last year I used eye liner on my face and neck and bronze sharpie on my legs.
World of Warcraft – Horde Pirates *Returning
Pirates For the Horde! Lok’Tar Ogar! The story behind these costumes is that we have a pirate themed World of Warcraft guild called Blackwater Buccaneers which gave us the idea to put together Horde themed pirate costumes. I originally planned to make our guild tabards which feature an octopus but decided to go with the Horde logo for recognition. I made myself a new tabard this year but will have to see if I can still fit into the corset comfortably.
Doctor Who – Karl as the 10th Doctor
I might bring River Song back but since I doubt the dress fits well and I’m not sure happy with it I will probably skip it in favor of a modern interpretation of Jem from Jem and the Holograms.
