Chilling at The Fountains

I woke up to a text message from Karl telling me I’d forgotten my camera’s battery charger at home, or actually, he may of messaged me the day before. Either way, finding a battery charger before heading to Cuba immediately became my top priority.

I woke up around 7 am and helped Betty make breakfast. She had a lot going on the bacon was burning so I dived in and saved the bacon. Yay!

Mario gave me a lift to a camera shop around 8:30. The shop should have opened at 8, but was not yet open when we arrived. We waited around a few minutes while I looked for another store on my phone and then headed to the next one which was thankfully only a few blocks down. It was open, the sales person was helpful and hooked me up with a generic charger that hit me for about $56 dollars. It hurt, but not as bad as it would of hurt to get to Cuba without a battery charger. Thankfully this ended up being the only thing I actually forgot to pack.

Dear Canon Outlet, Thanks for being open when you say you will be.

Back at the resort I checked the battery charger to make sure it worked. My fears alleviated I immediately set about my agenda for the day: relax by the pool and swim as much as possible. While I don’t really believe in Zodiac stuff I really identify with my Pisces water sign. I love being in the water. I want a pool or a friend with a pool I can crash any time so bad. I would live in a pool day and night if I could. Water is just so incredibly soothing and fun it’s ridiculous. Obviously I don’t get to spend nearly enough time in the water or I wouldn’t be talking so obsessively about it. ^__^

Anyways, the pool was great. There were ducks swimming in it, and I found those same ducks chilling under my table when I got out of the pool to relax. I thought it was pretty cool to chill out with a bunch of ducks most of the afternoon.

I ordered a mudslide and was having a great time relaxing when my tour crew showed up around noon and invited me to join them for lunch. I was happy to join them at Wakoola Grill, a poolside restaurant, for a bit of social time. I wasn’t really hungry but I ordered Stuffed Tostones: fried smashed green plantains topped with pico de gallo and a creamy sriracha sauce. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t as good as I hoped.

After eating I decided it was time for a nap so I headed back to the room and laid down for about 5 hours. I ate leftovers in the room while everyone else went out to get pizza or something and then put my swimsuit back on so I could head back out to the pool.

The stuffed tostones didn't hit the spot so I enjoyed a glass of chocolate milk and some watermelon before taking my nap.

Sharon and Betty weren’t really interested in swimming, but Mario was, and I got him to drive me over to the Clubhouse around 8 pm so I could check out it’s pool. It was lovely. The clubhouse is a large three story building with an arcade on the top floor, a Starbucks and lounge on the second floor, and a fitness room, bar, hot tub, and indoor pool area. The indoor pool area is a continuation of the outdoor pool so you can swim in and out of the two areas. It’s very nice. I walked around and enjoyed the lake view while talking to Karl and then relaxed in both the swimming pool and hot tub.

There was a large group of people in the hot tub when I entered. A few years ago I would of been too shy to enter but I have since decided that it’s actually more fun to join others and hopefully engage in conversation and I was not disappointed with this group. It was a lively group of guys and girls that I found out were Cuban or at least of Cuban descent. We exchanged the typical where you from, where you going, what you up to kind of questions. I’m not sure if they’d had a bit to drink or if they were just super friendly, but there was one guy that was particularly funny. He made a lot of jokes about Miami essentially being Cuba, and Orlando just being North Miami. Laughing and being social was a great way to end the evening.
