What a trip. Karl and I just got home from a weeklong road trip to Texas and back. We both got to explore several areas we&#8217;d never been to before. We saw a lot of sights and ate a ton of good food. I now know why people rave about food in Texas. I&#8217;ll be posting detailed vacation blogs this week but for the time being here are a few highlights from our trip.<\/p>\n<h3>Our trip included stops and\/or stays in the following cities and some surrounding areas:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuscaloosa, AL<\/li>\n<li>Baton Rouge, LA<\/li>\n<li>Houston, TX<\/li>\n<li>San Antonio, TX<\/li>\n<li>Austin, TX<\/li>\n<li>Waco, TX<\/li>\n<li>Dallas, TX<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Some highlights of our trip include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Touring the Old State Capital in Baton Rouge, LA<\/li>\n<li>Visiting the Houston Museum of Art and NASA&#8217;s Mission Control in Houston, TX<\/li>\n<li>Visiting the San Antonio Riverwalk, The Alamo, and The Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, TX<\/li>\n<li>Visiting Graffiti Park and seeing the Texas Capitol building in Austin, TX<\/li>\n<li>Visiting our friend Danielle in Dallas, TX<\/li>\n<li>Eating all the yummy Texas food. Texas is known for its brisket and tex-mex. We had plenty of both. We also tried Guatemalan&nbsp;food for the first time, and had the best burger and fries ever at a place called Hopdoddy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>A brief breakdown of our trip looks something like this:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Day 1, Friday: Drove from AL to Texas<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuscaloosa, AL:&nbsp;Breakfast at Rama Jama&#8217;s<\/li>\n<li>Baton Rouge, LA:&nbsp;Toured the Old State Capital<\/li>\n<li>Arrived in Houston, TX<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 2, Saturday: Explored Houston<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Brunch at Velvet Taco<\/li>\n<li>Houston Museum of Art<\/li>\n<li>Houston Downtown Aquarium<\/li>\n<li>Kemah Boardwalk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 3, Sunday: Houston to San Antonio<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Toured NASA&#8217;s Johnson Space Center<\/li>\n<li>Tried Guatemalan&nbsp;food at Atitlan Restaurant<\/li>\n<li>Drove to San Antonio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 4, Monday: Explored San Antonio<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Hop on Hop Off Bus Tour<\/li>\n<li>Lunch at Augies (Delicious Brisket)<\/li>\n<li>Riverwalk River Boat Cruise<\/li>\n<li>Drinks at Hard Rock Cafe<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 5, Tuesday: San Antonio<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Toured The Alamo<\/li>\n<li>Lunch at Blue Star Arts Complex<\/li>\n<li>Battle for the Alamo film<\/li>\n<li>Visited Karl&#8217;s old neighborhood<\/li>\n<li>Tower of the Americas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 6, Wednesday: San Antonio to Austin<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Japanese Tea Garden and Cafe<\/li>\n<li>Graffiti Park at Castle Hills<\/li>\n<li>Laundry and early night at hotel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 7, Thursday: Austin to Waco to Dallas<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Lunch at Terry Black&#8217;s BBQ in Austin<\/li>\n<li>Dr Pepper Museum &amp; Magnolia Market in Waco<\/li>\n<li>Checked into the Dallas Omni Hotel<\/li>\n<li>Dinner at Gen Korean BBQ in Carrollton, TX<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 8, Friday: Dallas<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Dallas Museum of Art<\/li>\n<li>Dallas Driving Tour \/ Hardrock Cafe Pin<\/li>\n<li>Lunch at Hopdoddy<\/li>\n<li>Shopping and dinner with our friend Danielle in Carrollton, TX<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 9, Saturday: The Return Home<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Drove home from Dallas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whew!
