The End is Here
|I cannot begin to express how glad I am for this semester to finally be over. I could go on for quite awhile about why this semester was not cool, but I’m ready to put it behind me and move on. I’ll eventually post some of my work from this semester, but for now I want to take a break. I’m feeling anxious right now, I guess I’m anxious to feel like summer break is here. This summer will hopefully be fun and productive. Hopefully, this will be the ‘summer of carol,’ for me. I’m feeling pretty positive and adamant about spending the majority of my time exercising, working around my home, and focusing on myself and my husband.
Tomorrow night I’m going bowling with members of the JSU Student Art Alliance. I’ve had privilege of serving as the club’s President for the past year, and as vice president and secretary in 2008-2009. During my first stint at JSU I wanted to be involved with the Art Alliance, but never had time. I made time to get involved when I came back to JSU. It has been a lot of work, but I feel like I’ve helped to make a positive impact. I was passionate about getting involved with the Art Alliance because I wanted to help other students experience and realize things I felt we were missing out on.
There are so many skills, and so much information that we, students, need to know, and it is so important to realize that we have to pursue much of this information on our own. However, doing everything on our own all the time isn’t very fun, and we can learn a lot more from each other. It seems like most things are more fun when pursued by like-minded people with similar goals. While, I will not be serving as an officer for the Art Alliance next year, I plan to stay involved and I’d really like to encourage everyone to join and get involved in student and professional groups. Even if you don’t have much time, any amount of involvement is better than nothing. I’m, personally, looking forward to interacting more with SPE & AIGA, two professional associations I joined earlier this year, and a few other less formal artists communities. I would also like to remind all my art friends that we need to stick together and do stuff. I keep dreaming of creating or being a part of a group like one of the ones mentioned in art history, whose names currently escape me.
