Quinteto Vocal Retro at The One-Eyed Cat
|5/22/2016
We got our first taste of Cuban music our second night in Cuba at The One-Eyed Cat (El Gato Tuerto), a super hip night club with a beautifully designed pond out front and an intimate smoky atmosphere inside.
We arrived around 9 pm and sat in groups of four at little tables. Each table was given a bottle of Havana Rum, and 4 cokes to make our own Cuba Libres (rum and cokes). We were also served plates of really yummy cheese and meat slices. It was super tasty for such simple food.
Betty and I were shared a table with David and Georgina who didn’t want to drink which left more for Betty and I, but I probably only refilled my glass 3 times and I’m pretty sure Betty just had a sip. It was enough for me to relax and enjoy a light buzz.
The band, Quinteto Vocal Retro, was supposed to start at 9:30, but didn’t get started until 10 pm which was a shame as most of us had to leave at 10:30 pm to avoid missing our bus.
The band members came out one by one with solo performances until they were all on stage. They performed some classic songs in English before diving into some fun and sexy Spanish numbers. They were all super talented. I really enjoyed their Cuban numbers. The music was rich, passionate, and loud, making the little venue come alive.
My only real regret while in Cuba was not staying for the rest of their performance.
My favorite number.
Male Solo Performance
Female Solo – What an amazing voice!
A really good cover of Only You
