Japan, Day 12: Fushimi Inari Shrine & Gion Corner

We decided to have a bit of a rest day . I woke up around 8am but we chilled in the apartment till about two in the afternoon, mostly catching up on the blog and photo uploads. I felt a little lame staying in so long. I’ve never been on a trip this long and my stamina started to wane by the end of our week in Tokyo. It’s hard to pace oneself when there’s so much to see.

Peanut cream on thick bread.

Bus 206 to Kyoto Station: 2:15-2:50

The smell pulled us in. Waffles seem very popular in Japan.
We tried tiramisu and cookie chocolate.

Arrived at Inari Station a little after 3pm

Fushimi Inari Shrine

Excited! This was #1 on my Kyoto activity wishlist.

Foxes everywhere.

Instructions on how to purify yourself before entering the shrine.

Karl gives it a go.

Beautiful fox statue.

Torii shaped ema.

It began raining as soon as we bagan our walk through the torii gates so we didn’t make it through the upper loop.

Beginning of the torii gate tunnel.

Into the fray! The shrine was packed. If I could do the day over again I’d go first thing in the morning.

So cool!

Go away rain!

Boarded 5:20 train for Kyoto Station. Arrived at 5:27.

Bus from Kyoto Station to Gion, 5:42 – 6:00

Restaurant near our apartment.

Karl plays it safe with pork fried rice.

Pretty sure this was liver with beansprouts. Yuck! 1/5

Gion Corner – Japanese Variety Show

Shopping in Gion

Love this craft store!

So cute!

We bought this little guy. I think we shall name him Kyoto Miso.

Taking the bus back to the station. 9-

Daiso (100 yen shop) was closed. πŸ™

Bought bus passes for tomorrow.

We watched “Aqua Fantasy” water show at the station while waiting for the bus.

Our bus is almost here.

Picked up groceries from 7/11, walked a few blocks back to the apartment. Ate dinner and did laundry. The washing machine is really neat but what’s really cool is how the shower room doubles as a clothes dryer.

Our shower doubles as a clothes dryer.

I thought we’d pack up and catch up on some sleep, but we didn’t pass out until almost 2am. Tomorrow is going to be a long day…
